Quick Note from Emily (Coopers mom) - So, this attempt at a website and fundraising is at the suggestion of many friends and Cooper lovers. I have realized over the years that Coop has enriched not only my life but of most of the people he comes into contact with. I have been told countless times that "he has a certain way about him." He needs a surgery called a Total Hip Replacement and the cost is around $4500. The surgery would give him a second go at life, he was diagonosed with chronic hip dysplasia at one year and his pet insurance didn't cover the surgery or any related costs. He has been on a plethara of meds since than combating pain and in attempt to slow down degeneration. The odds for this surgery are in his favor. I appreciate all the support and how many people love my dog as much as I do. I hope to start more fundraising around Salt Lake City and would love ideas and help. Check out the blog on here http://cooperships.yolasite.com/blog.php and share a story you have about Cooper or any ideas/suggestions. I will also post updates with how the fundraising is going and hopefully surgery updates. Thanks everyone!
My name is Cooper, and I am a 5 year old Alaskan Malamute. I was born in Texas (kinda backwards, huh?) and have gotten to travel and live all over the states. I worked in Alaska...ok actually my mom was working, I sat around with my four legged companion Japhy and ate the fresh salmon and howled at moose. But I have done alot of working in my five years. One summer I got to hang out in Bozeman with Kelsey (my moms brother) helping him collect water samples for his phD research. I spent a couple of years working at Second Nature Wilderness Program with my mom, Emily (who some of you may know). I was a good field dog, I was really good at cleaning dirty dishes and keeping students warm when the temps crept below zero. The last year and a half my mom has tried to retire me from working, I no longer carry a pack and really can't hike anymore. Which is a shame because I love being on the trail. I have managed to still go on my fair share of trips this year...the kids at the Oakley School feed me all the sausage I want and I get to hang out with my best dog friend Aspen. I have alot of stories...especially tales of misadventure (they tend to involve other creatures). But I digress, I am hoping to get new hips this year. I have severe hip dsyplasia and need a surgery called a total hip replacement. If you are curious about the surgery check this website out http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2084&aid=444 . If you would like to help me and my mom out in our quest for new hips you can donate here through paypal, send money to the Avenues Pet Clinic, 350 E 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111,
